Does Insider One Support Exit-Intent in Mobile Apps?

Prev Next

Insider One App Templates do not include a native exit-intent trigger. You can still reach users who did not complete an action or cover a specific screen flow in your app with the options in this article.

Exit-intent campaigns reach a user at the moment they are about to leave. On web, Insider One detects this through cursor movement on desktop and fast upward scrolling on mobile web. Many customers ask whether the same is possible inside a mobile app.

This article explains which triggers App Templates support, how the No-Trigger Event rule relates to exit-intent, and how you can approximate a specific exit flow in your app.

Before you start, review App Templates and Enhanced Mobile App Templates: Rules.

Supported triggers

In the InOne panel, you can start an App Template with one of the following triggers:

  • On Session Start: Displays the template when the app launches and the SDK initializes.

  • On Single Event: Displays the template when a user performs the event you select.

  • On Multiple Events: Displays the template based on several user events and their parameter values.

No trigger responds to the OS back button, app backgrounding, app closing, session end, or user inactivity.

No-Trigger Event rule

The No-Trigger Event rule is not an app-exit detector. It starts a countdown after your trigger events occur. If the user does not perform the selected no-trigger event within that period, the template becomes eligible to display.

For example, you can target users who added a product to their cart but did not purchase within 10 minutes. The rule checks whether a specific event happened. It does not detect that the user left or backgrounded the app.

Approximate an exit flow

You can approximate a specific flow by sending a custom event from your app before an action your app controls, such as a user leaving a particular screen. That custom event can then trigger an App Template.

This approach needs implementation in your app. It also works only for the flow you instrument, not as a general trigger for the OS back button, app backgrounding, app closing, or inactivity.

Insider One App Templates currently support On Session Start, On Single Event, and On Multiple Events triggers. They do not offer a native exit-intent trigger. The No-Trigger Event rule helps you reach users who did not complete an action, and a custom event can cover a specific screen flow in your app.

To set up triggers for your templates, see Enhanced Mobile App Templates: Rules.
