The Transactional WhatsApp API lets you send important, timely, non-promotional messages such as order confirmations, shipment notifications, delivery updates, appointment reminders, payment notifications, and account verifications. These messages do not require user opt-in or interaction. By leveraging WhatsApp’s large user base and rich media features, you can improve customer communication, satisfaction, and retention.

You can send two main types of transactional messages:
Template-based messages: They are pre-approved by WhatsApp and ideal for sending standardized, consistent content such as order updates, reminders, or confirmations.
Free-form text messages: They are sent without using a template, allowing you to deliver plain text content to end users.

Both Transactional API and Conversational API can send marketing and utility messages. Use Transactional API for one-way messaging, and Conversational API for two-way messaging. Neither API enforces opt-in control, since neither is connected to UCD.
