Suggested reading: SMS Opt-out Options

The "Opt-Out" function allows users to request that they no longer receive messages in their mobile phone inbox.

Regulations require an opt-out option in SMS text to allow users to not receive future messages from your brand. In some countries, however, it is not compulsory. Please contact the Insider One team to learn more about regulations in the countries you want to send SMS to.

How does SMS opt-out work?

Insider automatically processes the user’s opt-out information and SMS opt-in when they send an opt-out message. The user will not be included in your brand’s next SMS campaign.

For example, you prepared an SMS campaign that included an opt-out option and sent the message through a journey. The user received the SMS message and sent an inbound message to opt out. The User's SMS opt-in will be changed to false immediately in the Insider database, and the user will automatically receive an opted-out attribute in the database.

When the user enters the same journey in the future and arrives at the SMS step, Insider will not try to send them an SMS message. In case an SMS is attempted to send, there is another fallback mechanism at the SMS Queue, which double-checks users' opt-in information.

In case you would like to pass the opted-out user information to your end (CRM), you can use the Call an API channel. Add the "Sms Opt Out User" attribute to the "body" part of the API request to send users along with their opt-out information to your end.
