SMS Content Guidelines

Many SMS-related laws and regulations are applied in various countries. One of them, for instance, specifies that you can’t send SMS messages during so-called "white hours." For example, in some countries, it is not possible to send a text message between 10 pm and 8 am. To prevent this from happening, you can enable the Silent Hour feature or schedule it to be sent at a later time.

Opt-out and opt-in processes are important in the SMS world, and authorized institutions perform ongoing audits. Ensure you comply with the rules and regulations of the country to which you send your SMS.

Please keep in mind that SMS message content can’t have any of the following characteristics:

  • It cannot violate any law or regulation.
  • It cannot be deliberately deceiving.
  • It must not contain sexually explicit or pornographic content.
  • In some regions, special regulations apply to commercial gambling-related content.
  • In some cases, pre-registration of the sender ID (‘From’) is required.
  • For some destinations, the entire content template needs to be pre-approved by the authorities.
