Rich Communication Service (RCS)

This feature is released in beta. You can contact the Insider One team for further information.

Rich Communication Services (RCS) enables you to send rich, interactive messages through customers’ native messaging applications. Unlike traditional SMS, RCS messages can include images, videos, carousels, call to action buttons, and quick reply options, allowing businesses to create more engaging communication experiences.

With RCS, you can also use verified sender profiles that display your brand name, logo, and verification badge. This helps customers immediately recognize and trust the sender.

In addition, RCS provides enhanced messaging insights. You can track detailed engagement metrics, such as message opens, clicks, and interactions, giving you greater visibility into campaign performance than with traditional SMS.

Types of RCS

Two types of RCS are available:

  • Basic (Text) RCS

  • Single (Media) RCS

RCS Eligibility

To receive an RCS message, the recipient must meet the following conditions:

  • The device must run iOS 18 or later or Android 6.0 or later.

  • RCS messaging must be enabled in the device settings.

  • The recipient’s mobile carrier must support RCS in the relevant region. Not all carriers support RCS in every country.

If the recipient’s device does not support RCS due to any of these conditions, the message will be delivered using SMS fallback. You can configure the fallback behavior during the design step in the panel.

Example Use Cases

The following examples illustrate how you can use RCS messaging to deliver interactive experiences and drive customer engagement.

Use Case 1: Product discovery with interactive carousels

An ecommerce brand sends an RCS message containing a product carousel with high-resolution images. Each card includes actions such as View Details or Buy Now.

Customers can browse products directly within their messaging app and tap Buy Now to open the mobile site with a pre-filled cart, making it easier to complete the purchase.

Use Case 2: Collecting customer preferences with quick replies

A fashion retailer launches a style discovery campaign using an image carousel that showcases different aesthetics, such as Streetwear and Classic Minimalist.

Customers select their preferred style using Quick Reply buttons. Their selections can be captured as profile attributes and later used for segmentation and personalization campaigns.
