Tag Management

If I rename a tag, does it change everywhere?

Yes. There is one tag object, and every product references it, so a rename updates every channel and item kind; nothing needs to be reapplied.

What's the difference between removing a tag from a campaign and deleting a tag?

Removing detaches the tag from that one campaign; the tag stays in the panel and on every other item. Deleting removes the tag from the account entirely and detaches it from everything. The delete confirmation tells you exactly what that means before you commit.

What happens to my campaigns and journeys when I delete or rename a tag?

Nothing happens to the records themselves. Deleting a tag simply removes it; renaming it updates the name it shows. A tag change never stops, resets, or restarts journeys. The delete confirmation lists every item the tag will be removed from, broken down by kind.

Can I still create tags from a campaign's Launch step?

Yes. Inline creation stays; it just follows the same central rules now: same validation, same duplicate check, same permission requirement. A Go to Tags link takes you to the central page when you need to manage tags, not just attach one.

Can I undo a delete or a merge?

No. Both are permanent; a merge also deletes the tags you merged in. This is why each shows you the impact before you confirm:

  • The delete confirmation lists every item the tag will be removed from.

  • The merge drawer shows exactly what will move onto the tag you are keeping.

Why can't I create or edit a tag?

Tag editing is role-based. View-only and Outsource users can read tags but not change them. The picker stays visible but disabled, and the Edit tags action is hidden. If you think your role should allow it, check with your panel admin.

Why is a campaign greyed out when I try to attach a tag?

It has already reached its tag limit. Each item can carry up to 100 tags. Remove a tag from that campaign first, then attach the new one.

Can I add a tag to several campaigns at once?

Yes, and you do it from the tag rather than from the campaigns. Open the tag, choose Manage Connected Items, and add everything the tag should apply to in one go: campaigns, segments, and the rest. Then, save once.

I'm getting "this name is taken," but I can't see that tag anywhere.

Tag names must be unique across the panel, and the check ignores capitalization. If Summer exists, summer is rejected as the same name. The check also runs over every tag in the panel, not just the ones loaded in your picker, so the matching tag may simply be further down the list. Search the tag list for the name to find it.
