Embedded signup simplifies the process and has all the steps, such as connecting WhatsApp Business Manager accounts, creating WhatsApp Business Accounts, and verifying phone numbers, in a single flow. This reduces the time you spend creating a WhatsApp Business account.

You can find answers to these questions in this article:

Requirements for a WhatsApp Business account

All you need to start the WhatsApp Business Registration is the following:

  • Admin Access to your Facebook Business Page

  • Phone Number which is not being used anywhere and doesn’t have any WhatsApp account attached to it, and to have the capabilities to either receive phone calls or SMS to get your verification code.

If you have a WhatsApp account attached to your phone number, you can follow the migration flow and migrate your phone number.

  • Business Name, which will be the WhatsApp Profile Name

  • Timezone

  • Business Category

  • Business Description / Website Link, which can be changed later on.

Additional Requirements for WhatsApp Business Account (WABA) Setup

To ensure successful WABA creation and prevent interruptions in message delivery, Meta enforces the following requirements for business identity, naming, and verification. Incorrect or inconsistent information may lead to display name rejection or blocked message delivery.

  • WABA name & website must match the actual business: Meta requires the WABA display name and website URL to be fully aligned with the real business entity. If the business name and website do not correspond, Meta may block message delivery. OTP and message delivery might fail until the information is corrected.
For example: A business attempted to create a WABA using a website belonging to a different brand under the same company. Meta blocked OTP sending due to the mismatch. After the business created the WABA using the correct brand name and its own website, the setup was approved.

  • Sub-brands require legal proof: If a business wants to include a sub-brand under an existing WABA:

    • Legal documents demonstrating the ownership or relationship must be provided.

    • Without proof, Meta might reject the display name or block message delivery.

  • Display name requirements: The WABA display name must have a verifiable connection to the business. Meta might request evidence such as:

    • Official website reference: The name, brand, or product must appear on the business’s official site.

    • External media coverage: Press releases, news articles, or verified social media accounts showing the connection.

    • Mutual acknowledgement: If the brand belongs to a partner, agency, or distributor, both parties must show the relationship.

    • Legal documentation: Ownership certificates, trademark records, or partnership agreements.

Meta enforces these policies to prevent:

  • Impersonation

  • Misleading or inaccurate branding

  • User confusion

  • Risky or incorrect business representations

Ensuring that the WABA name, website, and documentation match the actual business helps maintain trust and guarantees successful message delivery.

Insider highly suggests that you have collected leads and received your users’ consent before sending them your campaign messages. In other words, you need to collect opt-in from them so they agree to receive messages over WhatsApp from your business and provide you with their mobile phone number. You can collect leads via different lead collection campaigns.

Another easy way to collect consent is text to opt-in. Text to opt-in is a way to collect subscribers by asking them to write a predefined keyword/sentence to your WhatsApp account. For example, you can define your opt-in keyword/sentence as “Subscribe.” When a user writes "Subscribe" on WhatsApp and sends it to you, they directly subscribe to your WhatsApp channel.

MM Lite API registration

Marketing Messages Lite API (MM Lite API) is a new WhatsApp API introduced by Meta after the Cloud API. Designed for direct marketing use cases, MM Lite API offers a simplified integration experience, improved deliverability performance, and a focus on enhancing customer engagement. It helps businesses achieve results equal to or better than those obtained through the Cloud API, especially in high-volume message delivery scenarios.

MM Lite API registration is the final step of the WhatsApp integration process.

Optimization Features: MM Lite API vs Cloud API

The table below highlights the optimization differences between the MM Lite API and the Cloud API:

Category

Description

Marketing Messages Lite API (Supports Marketing)

Cloud API (Supports Auth, Utility, Service, Marketing)

Quality-based delivery

Improving deliveries of high-engagement messages.

Yes: MM Lite boosts delivery for high-engagement messages, achieving up to 9% more deliveries than the Cloud API.
High-engagement marketing messages are those that users expect, find relevant and timely, and are therefore more likely to be read and clicked.

No: Message quality is not considered when applying per-user marketing message limits, so delivery cannot be increased for high-engagement messages.

Automated creative optimizations

Messages are automatically optimized in design and content to perform better.

Yes (pilot): Automatically enhance the visual appeal and engagement of marketing template messages. Refer to Meta's guide for the full list of capabilities.

No

For further information on MM Lite API, refer to Meta's guide.

Once the integration is complete, follow these steps to register your WhatsApp number with the MM Lite API.

To complete the MM Lite API registration, you must have Admin access in your Meta Business Manager. This is the same level of access required during the initial WhatsApp integration.

  1. Navigate to WhatsApp > Settings > Integration. Click the Register Now button.

  2. Click the Continue button.

  3. Click Continue to proceed.

  4. Click the Get Started button.

  5. Make sure to select the business that your WABA is linked to, then click Next.

  6.  Click Continue.

  7. Click Finish

  8. Congratulations! You have completed the Marketing Message Lite API registration.

How is delivery performance evaluated in MM Lite API?

In the Marketing Messages Lite API (MM Lite API), message delivery performance is evaluated based on benchmark models and engagement-based metrics, rather than message volume alone.

MM Lite continuously analyzes how users interact with your messages, primarily through read and click actions. These interactions are used as key performance indicators to estimate how future messages are likely to perform.

The system reviews anonymized engagement data from the last 30 days and compares your template’s performance with similar templates across the following dimensions:

  • Country or region

  • Industry

  • Template category

Based on this comparison, Meta generates performance benchmarks such as:

  • Read Rate Benchmark

  • Click Rate Benchmark

These benchmarks typically reflect the high-performing range for comparable businesses.

How does user engagement affect delivery?

  • High read or click rates can increase your potential delivery capacity.

  • Consistently low engagement may gradually reduce future delivery scale.

  • Low interaction does not block message delivery, but it can influence how upcoming campaigns are scaled.

MM Lite operates through fully automated and continuously optimized systems, meaning delivery can expand or narrow based on predicted user engagement, not just the number of messages sent.
