Exclude a Dynamic Segment

Dynamic Segment Exclusion allows you to exclude predefined user groups from a campaign audience by selecting existing Dynamic Segments. This approach minimizes repetitive work, ensures consistent targeting logic across campaigns, and prevents unnecessary engagement with users who should not be targeted.

Use case

You may want to exclude specific users from a campaign based on defined criteria in some scenarios:

For example, you might want to offer discounts to users who have added a product to their cart within the last 30 days. However, to optimize engagement spend, you may want to exclude power users from this campaign.

Power users could be defined by conditions such as:

  • Users who completed 3 purchases in the last 3 months

  • Users who launched the app 15 times in the last month

  • Users who rated products 10 times in the last year

Instead of recreating this complex logic for every campaign, you can save these conditions as a Dynamic Segment (for example, “Power Users”) and reuse it whenever needed.

This segment can then be excluded from discount campaigns, ensuring more focused and cost-efficient targeting.

How to exclude a Dynamic Segment

To exclude a Dynamic Segment from a campaign:

  1. Navigate to the Recipient/Segments step of Email, Architect, SMS/WhatsApp, or Web Push.

  2. Locate the Exclude Dynamic Segments section.

  1. Click the dropdown to view all available Dynamic Segments.

  1. Hover over a segment to see a tooltip with a summary of its applied filters. Clicking View Details opens the segment’s overview page in a new tab.

  1. Select one or more Dynamic Segments to exclude.

  1. Continue configuring the remaining audience filters in the Recipient step.

Dynamic Segment Exclusion is available only in the Recipient/Segments step of products. It cannot be applied during Dynamic Segment creation.

Limitations

  • Segments with no filters applied (for example, “All Users”) cannot be selected for exclusion.

  • You can exclude up to 10 Dynamic Segments per campaign.
