You can write the message content directly in the campaign, while WhatsApp automatically generates and manages the underlying template. Instead of creating a template, waiting for approval, and then sending the message, you can compose and send your utility message in a single flow. This is useful for operational messages such as order updates, appointment reminders, and payment notifications. > [!NOTE] > Direct Send for Utility messages is available only for eligible WhatsApp Business Accounts (WABAs) that have been enabled by Meta. If you want to use this feature, contact the Insider One team to request enablement. > [!NOTE] > Direct Send currently supports utility messages only. It cannot be used to send marketing messages. To send marketing messages, use an approved WhatsApp Marketing template. ## How Direct Send works For each message you send, Meta first checks whether the content matches an existing auto-generated template: - If a matching template exists, Meta uses that template to send the message. - If no matching template exists, Meta sends the message using a fallback onboarding template so that delivery is not blocked. At the same time, it asynchronously generates a new auto-generated template from your content for future sends. ## Create a Direct Send campaign Direct Send is available in the standard WhatsApp campaign flow. Follow the steps below to create your campaign. 1. Navigate to **InOne > Campaign Management > Messaging > WhatsApp.** 2. Create or edit a WhatsApp campaign and proceed to the Design step, where you compose your campaign content. 3. In the Template Selection section, select **Direct Send for Utility** to compose your message directly without using a pre-approved template. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/c6df4583-da94-4cb2-bb8a-be0cbdd11109/Images/Documentation/image-W8Q5WYZM.png) 1. In the Template Content section, select a Content Type: - **Interactive Message:** A message that can include a header, body, footer, and buttons such as a call-to-action URL or reply buttons. - **Text Message:** A message that contains only a text body. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/c6df4583-da94-4cb2-bb8a-be0cbdd11109/Images/Documentation/image-4ONJU6W2.png) 1. To compose your message, enter your content in the available fields. As you type, the **Preview** panel on the right displays how the message will appear to the recipient. For an **Interactive Message**, you can configure the following: - **Header:** Optional. Supports text headers of up to 60 characters. - **Message text:** Supports up to 1024 characters. Use **Add Variable** to add personalized values such as the recipient's name. - **Footer:** Optional. Supports up to 60 characters. - **Buttons:** Add up to 10 in total, combining reply buttons and up to 2 Call to Action URL buttons, 20 characters max each. > [!NOTE] > Call to Action buttons always reach the recipient first on Direct Send, unlike the template path, which preserves the author's order. > [!WARNING] > Direct Send moves Call to Action buttons to the front, a standard template keeps the order the author set. Two different behaviors on two surfaces. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/c6df4583-da94-4cb2-bb8a-be0cbdd11109/Images/Documentation/image-3J61WGJD.png) For a **Text Message**, enter your message text with up to 1024 characters. You can also use variables and coupon settings for personalization. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/c6df4583-da94-4cb2-bb8a-be0cbdd11109/Images/Documentation/image-4ONJU6W2.png) 1.
